Trends in found aflatoxin concentrations in food worldwide

Written by Dr. Frederik Wuppermann | November, 12 2024

The current data show increase of mycotoxins in food and feedingstuff in european import (RASFF 2024). The prevalence for nuts/peanuts contaminated with aflatoxins is frightening. More than 90% of total mycotoxin notification in comparison tot total numbers of 2023 is reached. In the beginning of the year jars of peanut were removed from shops due to high aflatoxin concentration. The food safety authorities are challenged and the impact of bad quality in traded food drops the value of food and increases the need for more testings. "every fifth container of peanuts from the USA imported to europe is tested for aflatoxins".

Actually US peanut in border rejection in border rejection notification is rejected due to exceeded aflatoxin concentration. The need of improving quality of traded peanut due to their susceptibility to aflatoxin contamination is high. There are EU compliant tools available to improve quality and to increase the testing frequency to overcome the issues of heterogenity in aflatoxin distribution in peanut samples.

Highest sensitivity allow sample volume reduction, increasing cleanup speed and testing frequencies. The Solution is called AflaCLEAN SMART from LCTech. - Higher sample numbers require unattended processing, 24/7 so samples could be processed within 20 minutes from extract to chromatogram - to make food safer and to be prepared for the next peanut harvest. Quality control makes food safer and more valuable. Join the technology to make food safer, more valuable and healthier. I am missing yummy peanut butter sandwiches, which does not contain aflatoxins.
